about

How did it happen? Acclaimed australian/canadian songwriter, Larissa Tandy, taking a break from the rise and grind of Nashville’s Music Row, finds herself in Canada, standing around at an industry event. Behind her, someone calls out to DJ and sound innovator Macster (real name Marisa) and they both turn around. A conversation starts and moves quickly - they’re from different worlds, but cut from the same cloth, and it’s late 2019: Lil Nas X is redefining what a crossover smash hit is, so it suddenly doesn’t seem weird for a beatmaker and a country writer to make stuff together. Macster mentions the idea to Lucid Hats collaborator DJ Ted-D, and a session is booked. They build beats, add guitars, and build a neural synthesiser, using artificial intelligence to make the sounds that set the track apart.

Don’t Steal My Bounce is a joyful 3 minute snapshot of 2am in a Nashville nightclub - a banjo peels off, the bass drops, and cowboy boots dance on a discarded Bridesmaid sash..

Don’t Steal my Bounce
© 2020 L Tandy, M McIvor, T Delaportas

I’m tired of disappointment
I don’t wanna talk it out
You were never gonna listen
So why waste anymore precious time

You said surrender to the music
You meant surrendering to you
But I meant it when I said it on the first day that I met you
Nobody tells me what to do

Don’t Steal My Bounce
Don’t Steal My Bounce
Don’t Steal My Bounce
Don’t Steal My Bounce

Don’t Steal My Bounce
Say anything you want
Don’t Steal My Bounce
Do anything you want
Don’t Steal My Bounce
Take anything you want
Get angry if you want
Don’t Steal My Bounce

I used to be a party
I used to light up a room
But I meant it when I said it on the first day that I met you
Nobody tells me what to do

You said surrender to the music
You meant surrendering to you
But I meant it when I said it on the first day that I met you
Nobody tells me what to do

Don’t Steal My Bounce
Don’t Steal My Bounce
Don’t Steal My Bounce
Don’t Steal My Bounce

Don’t Steal My Bounce
Say anything you want
Don’t Steal My Bounce
Do anything you want
Don’t Steal My Bounce
Take anything you want
Get angry if you want
Don’t Steal My Bounce

Don’t Steal My Bounce
Don’t Steal My Bounce
Don’t Steal My Bounce
Don’t Steal My Bounce
